This event is part of a series of webinars organised to demystify misconceptions and unrealistic expectations about data management.
Why is data lineage key for organisations?
Data lineage has gained prominence in recent years due to its ability to provide full visibility into the data lifecycle within an organisation. As part of the discipline of Data Integration and Interoperability (DII), the data lineage is essential as it ensures that organisations can document the origin and movement of data through various systems. From its origin to its consumption, lineage ensures that data persistence, movements, transformations, use, and exchange through Data Sharing Agreements (DSAs) comply with current regulations. Furthermore, knowing where data comes from and where it flows to is essential as part of the impact assessment which must be performed when data structures, flows, or processing procedures are modified.
In this context, Alberto will offer a unique perspective on how companies can leverage a data governance solution to improve the traceability, increase the data quality and ensure a decision-making more robust and reliable. It will also focus on debunk the false belief that the data lineage can be «magically» extracted using connectors that perform effortless scanning and reverse engineering. Alberto will explain that, while the tools can automate in certain respects, it is always necessary to carry out additional efforts to correctly document the data and processes involved. In addition, it will highlight that the business case of each company must be well-founded for these efforts to pay off, ensuring that the value provided by a data lineage implementation justify the time and resources invested in its configuration and management.
